Output of an alternator is created by the interaction of the outer magnet field (stator) and inner field (rotor). When the inner field (rotor) spins inside the outer field (stator) the constant breaking of these opposing fields causes AC (alternating current) power to be induced into the stator (outer field). Once The AC power comes out of the stator and it then goes into the bridge rectifier to be converted into DC (direct current) for use by the vehicles battery and electrical system.
To increase the output of an alternator you can change either the rotor, stator or changing both the rotor and stator gives the greatest effect. Changing just the stator gives the greatest output change and is the easiest to do. You must remember when you increase the output of the stator you must also increase the load carrying capacity of the Bridge Rectifier. The rectifier amperage rating must be greater than the output of the stator.
The next to consider is how the stator is made to obtain higher output. There are three common ways that you can increase the output of a stator, one is to reduce the number of windings on the stator. By reducing the number of windings it will put out more power when you rev the motor but the low end or idle output will be bad, this is the wrong way to make a high output stator.  The second is to use the same number of windings as original but increase wire size, they do better at idle but get hot. The third and best way to make a high output stator is to double wind each of the three sets of coils. You wind each set of coils twice then connect the two in parallel so they make one double would coil. Double winding gives you more output at lower engine speeds and cooler running.
